His qualities were much admired by his family and friends, and it is in remembrance of those qualities that this scholarship fund was created. It is the hope of the Bryan Potts Scholarship’s contributors and selection committee that, by annually recognizing a Rio Americano senior who shares Bryan’s joy of living, Bryan’s life will continue to touch young people in the community. The selection of the Bryan Potts Scholar is designed to identify a deserving student who best exemplifies Bryan’s personal characteristics. The selection committee will look for that student whose zest for life enriches others and whose inquisitiveness leads to greater knowledge and self-understanding. Ideally, the Bryan Potts Scholar will be an affectionate, warm person whose presence lends a touch of humor and vitality to every situation.

Born May 31, 1956 - Died November 14, 1975, of a malignant tumor of the brain.
Gregory graduated from La Sierra High School in June 1974. He had a GPA of 3.5. He was on the swimming team and was awarded 3 letters. He had no patience with the petty ostracism games often played by young people and took the part of those against whom the games were played. He took intense interest in all his courses. He enjoyed learning. He was a member of an Explorer Post of the BSA and became deeply knowledgeable about edible wild plants and survival techniques. He was active in his church and served as an acolyte.
Cal Worthington Memorial Scholarship
Cal Worthington Memorial Scholarship — San Juan Education Foundation
Cal Worthington Memorial Scholarship
The Cal Worthington Memorial Scholarship is awarded in memory of Cal Worthington. Cal Worthington was a decorated WW2 veteran who later became a legendary car dealer and one of the most successful farmers in California. Cal flew B-17's over Europe and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his service. He continued to fly his whole life. After the war, he became one of the largest car dealers in the United States, and was particularly well known for his television commercials that implored people to "Go See Cal," and featured his dog Spot, which was anything but a dog. In his later years, he was a major force in agriculture, as well, with some of the largest almond and olive ranches in the state. Although Cal never graduated from high school, he was a firm believer in education, hard work, and perseverance.
This Scholarship seeks to remember Cal by giving a young person an opportunity to continue their education in some of the areas that were so meaningful to Cal.
The Scholarship is administered by the San Juan Education Foundation. The Cal Worthington Scholarship fund will offer ten $1,500 scholarships and two $2,000. One qualified student from each of SJUSD's nine high schools and one student from the alternative education high schools will be eligible for a $1,500 level scholarship. Description of Andrew McMorris: The Andrew McMorris Foundation was created to honor the memory of an extraordinary twelve-year-old boy, Andrew McMorris, who was tragically killed by a drunk driver while hiking with his Boy Scout troop in the Fall of 2018. Andrew was full of life and a positive spirit. His charisma was contagious. A friend to everyone, Andrew had a way of making everyone feel good about themselves, and he had a knack for bringing people together. He consistently demonstrated his compassion and care for others.
